DISCOVER THE FUTURE
Children Learning about Women in Science and Math

Location: Lansdale Catholic High School, 7th Street and Lansdale Avenue, Lansdale, PA 19446
Students in grades 5 to 7 are invited to participate in Discover the Future: A Science and Math Extravaganza. A full day event where boys and girls attend presentations from professional women working in the fields of Math and Science. These inspirational women will motivate the children to pursue further education in these fields. All children attend the keynote speaker and the Discovery Lab, as well as rotating through a variety of workshops including Forensics, Animal Scientists, Geologist, Physical Science, Veterinarians and many more!
The keynote speaker will be Ms. Maryann Frazier, a Senior Associate with the Penn State Extension Program. She studies bees in an effort to best enable their use in creating economic development in Third World countries.

Our Discover Lab hands-on demos and experiments presented in past years included:
- Mock Vaccine
- DNA Models
- Balloon Rockets
- NASA Electroscope
- Fractals
- Robotics
- Balls in Boxes (logic)
- Molecules Get Glowing
- Three Jugs of Water (probability)
- Bill Nye’s Egg-Speriment
- Horses Inside and Out
- Frogs in a Fishbowl (prime number estimation)
The AAUW Lansdale branch has offered this program to students from the central Montgomery and surrounding areas since 1993. In addition to the school district, sponsors include a major pharmaceutical company, local businesses and community groups.
Continuing with an expanded outreach plan, we are anticipating 120 or more student participants at Discover the Future. In addition, the students in North Penn High School's National Honor Society and Key Club will be approached with the volunteer opportunity to assist the children and presenters on the day of the event.
There is a fee of $8 for early registrants, or $10 if postmarked after March 9.
