INTEREST GROUPS

Interest groups afford our members the opportunity to enjoy and develop common interests in a smaller group setting. Regularly scheduled gatherings are usually held in group members' homes on a rotating basis. Each group develops its own format and focus for the year. Groups are open to all branch members. Space limitations, however, may sometimes restrict the total number of participants. When you are ready to join an existing group, contact the group chairperson, printed in the Perspective.

BRIDGE A On the first Thursday of each month at 7:30 PM., AAUW members meet for an evening of social bridge. Rubber bridge scoring is used. Light snacks and good conversation rounds out the evening.

DUPLICATE BRIDGE FOR PAIRS Bridge fans gather the fourth Saturday for an evening of casual social duplicate bridge. The emphasis is enjoyment!

LITERATURE A The only morning literature group gathers each second Wednesday at 9:30 AM. Fresh minds, at the beginning of the day, bring forth some interesting dialogue. Selections are determined in May for the following year. This "Original" Lit. group welcomes new members. Click here to see the 2008-9 book list.

LITERATURE B This long-standing group meets on the third Monday of the month at 8:00 PM. Click here to see the 2008-9 book list.

CONTEMPORARY LITERATURE The newest of the lit groups will continue its focus on contemporary authors on the second Monday of each month. Selections offering a variety in type, length, and author's nationality, are made once a year. Newcomers are welcome. Click here to see the 2008-9 book list.

PARENTING / KIDS ACTIVITIES The Parenting Group meets at members' homes, or special locations. The group selects and addresses parenting topics for young to school aged children. Speakers can include AAUW members who have expertise in education, child development, etc. Members with toddlers through school-aged children benefit by getting helpful information and support. Some activities are planned to include children.

PLAY GROUP Mothers of infants through pre-school children get together on a regular basis at homes or parks. This provides moms and children with socialization and mutual support. The flexible format includes free play, special activity, and snack time.

Check the Perspective each month for the most current information regarding the interest groups.
